Rocket Motors

Rocket Motors

Rocket Motors contain the propellant that boost model rockets off the pad an onto their flight. Most are single use, and all are certified as safe toy propellant devices. Motors are rated by the total power they deliver, from 1/8 A through M, where the power doubles every letter. Typically for youth launches, particularly in small school or park fields, stick with B motors or lower, depending on the model you are flying. We recommend adult supervision for kids under 10 years old, and in some states, D motors and higher may only be purchased by adults. Only adults (18 years or older) may purchase F motors and above. Reloadable motors may only be used by adults, and high power motors require certification.

Small model rocket motors with 30 grams of propellant per grain or less can ship inexpensively through the US Postal Services's Ground service. This includes all Estes and Quest motors we carry, as well as all Aerotech D and E motors, and some Aerotech F through J motors. These USPS shippable motors are listed in the USPS Shippable Motors category, and they each have a USPS Shippable icon on their product page.

Motors with more than 30 grams of propellant per grain must ship FedEx HAZMAT, which incurs a $35 per shipment HAZMAT fee in addition to the FedEx shipping charges. this includes some motors in the F and G impulse classes most motors in the H, I, and J impulse classes, and all motors larger than J power.
