Description

At 1/45 scale, the Estes Little Joe II delivers beautiful scale quality of an historic launch vehicle  used to test the function of the Apollo command module and its escape tower system. This 23 inch tall, 3.4 inch wide 24mm motor mount kit comes in a sturdy, colorful box and a brochure describing the history of the Little Joe launch vehicle.  Unlike many of the scale missiles and human launch vehicles of the Apollo era, the Little Joe used fins like we see on model rockets to stabilize its flight path, rather than gimbled thrust seen on rockets without fins, or with undersized fins. This scale kit is a challenge, requiring lots of detailed work assembling plastic parts of the escape tower, nozzle detail, fins, and airframe wraps. You'll need to work with multiple types of adhesive for different parts of this build, and, with additional build supplies, the motor mount supports a cluster configuration to fly on 6 18mm motors, instead of the standard single 24mm motor mount.  This build will take a week or more to complete, with the quality of the final product dependent on the time, skill, and attention to detail you are able to put into it.
