Epoxy

Epoxy

Epoxies are very strong 2 part adhesives that stay liquid until the 2 parts are mixed, and are the preferred adhesive for mid or high power rocket construction.  Depending on the type of adhesive, the epoxy sets in 5, 15, 30, or more minutes, giving you different amounts of time to work with the parts.  For some work, you'll want a fast curing epoxy, but for others, you'll need extra time to make sure your parts are in the right position. Longer curing epoxies tend to be runnier, and shorter curing epoxies tend to be more viscous. The chemical reaction between the 2 parts produces a distinct period of heat just before it sets up that is more noticeable in quicker curing adhesives. When you feel the heat, finish up your work pronto. A Dremmel is often the only way to undo epoxy.

Some epoxies are more heat resistant than others, though some heat resistant epoxies are brittle, and can crack on hard landings that would not phase more flexible epoxies.
